Durban is a large port that hides its game well. If he does not go far from the center and the tourist waterfront, the traveler will see little or nothing of it. This city of 3.7 million inhabitants does not give away its keys too quickly, preferring to give itself time to win the visitor over to its oriental charms. A few hours or a few days, it depends on his mood. The tourist office promises 320 days of sunshine per year, with a good 30°C from January to March, a winter at 20°C from June to August and some terrifying rains from September to November. You can swim there all year round thanks to the anti-shark nets installed. To simplify things, we can say that there are two cities: the Durban of the interior, with its old buildings, its Indian quarter, its gleaming shopping malls and its glass towers, and the Durban on the sea side, with its esplanade and its slides, its hotels, each one seeming to want to take a few square meters from the other, just to impress the South Africans a little more, so proud of their Golden Mile, where they come by thousands to spend the Christmas vacations between concrete and neon. Like all large South African cities, the geography of Durban is evolving with society: the seaside is now mostly frequented by middle-class blacks, those who finally have access to the luxury of vacations. As a result, those who have a little more money quickly flee to the north, to Umhlanga. The city is very cosmopolitan, but there is a strong divide between whites, blacks and Indians, each of whom remains in his or her own "neighborhoods. Durban is not really a beautiful city, many buildings are abandoned and decrepit, welcome to a faded Miami!
