Still in the Western Cape, the small village of De Rust, which means "rest", is located 35 km east of Oudtshoorn on the N12. It is a beautiful valley where ostriches, the world's largest bird, are bred and where vines are grown on the banks of the Olifants. From Rust you can reach the Meiringspoort, a spectacular gorge in the heart of the Swartberg massif, where one rocky mountain follows another until water gushes out. A waterfall cascades down the ochre-coloured rocks into a natural swimming pool, which offers a natural and refreshing spectacle.
