Unpronounceable, isn't it? Say "Oud-sourren" and it may be understood that you mean the town at the centre of the Little Karoo. Oudtshoorn, the ostrich feather capital of the world, lies in the sunshine on a large, copper-coloured plain. Coming from the coast, you have to negotiate the Outeniqua Pass to finally see it, open, offered, in a landscape worthy of Colorado. The town welcomes hundreds of thousands of visitors during the Easter holidays for the Little Karoo KKNK festival. This cultural event is one of the most important in the country for Afrikaners, a sort of African cowboy festival.
