The park, built around the Skilpad wildflower reserve and in the area between the estuaries of the Groen and Spoeg rivers, covers an area of 45,698 ha yet to be developed. About 60% of the 4,000 species of plants and flowers are endemic. This ecosystem, known as the Succulent Karoo, is the most diverse and richest of the world's semi-arid complexes. Namaqua Park lies on the Hardeveld, between the coastal Sandveld and the Bushmanland plateau. From the beginning of August to the end of September, the dusty area is transformed into a carpet of multicoloured flowers, filled with butterflies and birds of all kinds. A must see at least once!
