Also called Phoenix Island, its idyllic setting and its multitude of coconut trees attract travelers. A small part of the island is dedicated to tourism. The place owes its notoriety to the monk Ong Dao Dua, also nicknamed "the coconut monk" since the fruit was the exclusive part of his diet. His real name was Nan Nguyen Tan and he decided to lead an ascetic life on the island after studying chemistry in France. It is his philosophy of life, a mixture of Buddhism and Christianity, which converted disciples. Today, only a pagoda remains, which houses a throne surmounted by the photo of the monk
