Thanks to its strategic location, this marina has preserved all its medieval charm. Overlooking the bay of Baiona, the fortress of Monterreal surrounds the promontory with its crenellated walls. Fortified since the 2nd century B.C., the fortress played a crucial role in the face of pirate attacks over the centuries. It was from the top of this site that the news of the existence of a New World was first heard, brought back by the caravel La Pinta, in 1493. Today, the walls house one of the most impressive paradores in Spain, located in the luxurious quarters of a Galician pazo building.
