To the west of Pontevedra, this stately town is full of elegant granite houses, including two authentic Galician pazos: the Fefiñanes manor house and the Bazán manor house, now converted into a parador. From Cambados you can see the island of Arousa, linked to the mainland by a long bridge. This town, which received the title of Muy Leal Villa in 1170 from Fernando II de León for its resistance to Viking and Norman attacks, is also the centre of the Sálnes region, an area that produces Rias baixas Denomination of Origin (DO) wines. As the capital of the Albariño, one of these wines, Cambados dedicates a great festival to it at the beginning of August.
