In the Middle Ages, Artajona held a capital place, as evidenced by its fort called "El Cerco", built between the 11th and 12th centuries. Today only nine of the original fourteen towers remain along the wall. Within the walls, the 13th-century fortified church of San Saturnino preserves a magnificent 16th-century altarpiece, but it is open only occasionally. It is named after a Navarrese captain who took part in the First Crusade to the Holy Land (1096-1999) with the Ramiro Infanta de Navarra. The dolmens of the Portillo de Eneriz y de la Mina are 3.6 km away. A medieval fiesta is held there every year at the end of August.
