Located in the north of Aragon, this city is one of the stops on the road to Santiago de Compostela. First but short-lived capital of the kingdom in the 11th century, it has several treasures that testify to its past splendor, starting with its Romanesque cathedral (11th century) and its citadel (16th century). A cosmopolitan and lively city, its summer university (the first one created in Spain in 1927), annex of the University of Zaragoza, welcomes thousands of students. Every year in May, a parade in period costumes re-enacts the victory of Count Aznar over the Moors in 860, and on June 25, the very popular pilgrimage of Santa Orosa takes place.
