Located in the heart of a wide valley covered with olive trees, 58 km from Hania, the large village of Kandanos, which can be seen from above, dominated by the imposing church of Agia Analipsi (the Ascension), has had a troubled history and is a symbol of the Cretan resistance to the various invasions. Its name means "city of victory" and has a pre-Hellenic origin.
