El Kantara (word for bridge) is located in the south of the island. It is a fishing village, divided between the island and the mainland, and whose two parts are connected by the Roman road (7 km long). Dragut used this road to make his way through the blockade imposed by Andrea Doria. The Romans made it a real communication route, piercing it in places in order to use the force of the water for the operation of mills working with the tides. Very damaged during its history, the road was widened in 1973. It is on this same road that was built, in the early 2000s, the bridge that connects Zarzis to Djerba.
