Located 5 km north of Sousse, this real jewel of Tunisian tourism was created in 1979, based on an idea by President Bourguiba who wanted to develop tourism in the Sahel region. Like Yasmine-Hammamet, Port el Kantaoui is composed of a series of hotels, apartments and stores. They converge on a port that can accommodate up to 340 boats and a pretty pedestrian marina decorated with flamboyant fuchsias, bougainvillea, jasmine and other oleanders. Nothing authentic: you either like it or you don't! In any case, it is difficult to remain insensitive. The resort is home to many businesses including restaurants, cafes and stores for foreign tourists who visit the site for its seven kilometers of beach. In addition, during the summer period, many events take place at the port. Many activities await the visitor: golf, tennis, sea motorcycling, parasailing, diving, casino, all in a very club atmosphere. If you stay a few days in Sousse or Port el Kantaoui, it is better to rent a bike or to walk around: the traffic in summer is unbearable. The success of the resort has caused environmental problems. The establishment of infrastructure near the shoreline has accelerated the destruction of the dunes. Tourism has also increased the pressure on water resources and generated large amounts of improperly treated waste.
