MEDERSA ENNAKHLA (OF THE PALM TREE)

Located in the medina, near the Great Mosque, it is the oldest. Established on the site of a former caravanserai where a lot of wine was sold, it is distinguished by the finesse of its columns and arches of Ottoman inspiration. Built in 1714, the Ennakhla Medersa (known as the Palm Tree) owes its name to the tree that stood in the middle of the courtyard, a small garden that is still visible today. The medersa is still in operation but closes during Ramadan.
