Jacó has long suffered from a sulphurous image that has fortunately calmed down. Ideally located close to the Carara National Park (ideal for birdwatchers) and only one hour from the famous Manuel Antonio, Jacó is wrongly still far too shunned by tourists. Compared to the neighboring cities of the Pacific coast, prices are reasonable and Jacó is a perfect starting point to discover the region without breaking the bank (much cheaper than nearby Manuel Antonio). The town remains crowded on weekends and is very popular with surfers because of the moderate currents. The beach is long enough to set up your towel, just to listen to the waves and to bask in the sun. This small town which consists mainly of a main street parallel to the sea, being the closest beach to San José, is very busy in high season but remains very pleasant to live at the rhythm of the sun and the tides. During the day, you will walk around the area to enjoy the fresh air and the lush nature that surrounds the city. From the many free waterfalls to canopy tours to unexpected encounters with huge wild crocodiles, the activities are many and varied along this coast. Finally, located at 1 hour and a half from the airport, Jacó can be a good place to end your stay and enjoy the Pacific for a while before taking your flight in the evening.
