Saint-Ours-les-Roches is home to some 1,600 souls. Its history is closely associated with the seigneury of Les Roches de Coffins, owned by the Aymé des Roches de Noyant family for almost 500 years. In 1781, the château was sold to Michel-Amable de Reynaud de Montlosier. It now belongs to his descendants. The commune's vast territory is divided into 19 localities, rich in vernacular heritage. In the village of Saint-Ours, the Romanesque church was remodeled in the 13th century. Vulcania and the Volcan de Lemptegy, major players in the region's tourism industry, are the main economic drivers in the area.
