Founded in 1706, Heredia is the former capital of coffee, and today you can still visit the finca Britt, one of the roasting factories with the most products on the shelf. The city is so close to San José that it can easily be considered one of its suburbs. It is also known as the "city of flowers" (although they are no more visible here than anywhere else!) and, since the 1990s, as the capital of high technology, especially in microprocessors. Heredia may be worth a stop on the way to the Barva volcano, but there is not much reason to stay overnight.
