170 km south-east of Lhasa, Tsetang is the capital of the Lhoka region on the banks of;. The old town was built at the foot of the Gangpori, which sheltered the love of Chenrezi (appeared as a monkey) and a démone. Their union was designed the first Tibetan.The Tsetang site would have been the scene of their meeting, which commemorates a small shrine at the top of the mountain. Formerly overshadowed by Nedong, Tsetang became a major Chinese city, the 3rd of Central Tibet. It has little interest, however, with the exception, perhaps, of its market.
