CHAPEL OF SAINT FRANCOIS-XAVIER

The building was built in 1928 in memory of Jesuit missionary François-Xavier. He devoted his life to evangelizing Japan, then China and Indochina before dying in 1552 on Sanchuang Island. The building does not lack charm, with a pale yellow facade of white and a French blue door. On the front, the words «the House of the Lord» are inscribed in Chinese characters. For the anecdote, the chapel was formerly managed by the Italian father Angelo Acquistapace who hated the Chinese. When they approached each of the masses, they would steal a retro retro Satanas! ("back, Satan!" ")… The chapel contains some of the most precious relics of Christianity in Asia. In a silver reliquary is a bone of the arm of Saint Francis-Xavier, which fulfills his mission of Christianization in Japan and returned to the coast of China in 1552 to die on the island of Sanchuan, 80 km from the coast of Macao. The relic was destined to be sent to Japan, but eventually moved to Saint-Joseph and then to Saint-François-Xavier chapel in 1978.
