This famous island is a place of Buddhist pilgrimage. An Indian monk came to the island from 847 to 860 and named it after the name of an Indian sacred mountain, Potolaka. In 916, Hui 'e, another monk, Japanese, had the mission of bringing a statue of Guanyin from Mount Wutaishan to Shanxi to his country. The heavens prevented him from returning to Japan and settled on Putuoshan Island. The monk establishes a small temple to shelter the Buddhist effigy, named Bukenque Guanyin Yuan. The island has three very famous temples: Pujisi (Universal Generosity), Fayusi (Spirit of Buddhism), Huijisi (Superior Intelligence of Buddhism for Man). The island with temples, small alleys and typical small bridges is a haven of peace. It is possible to stay, but the prices are quite high and vary greatly depending on the season.
