Zhouzhuang is located in Jiangsu province, about thirty kilometers south of Suzhou and about sixty kilometers from Shanghai. It is a beautiful city of canals - which has earned it the nickname of Venice from the Far East - characterized by its houses with pink roofs covered with gray roofs. It was declared World Heritage by UNESCO a few years ago. You can walk by boat in the canals or stroll along the paved streets of the city. If, of course, we can escape the hordes of tourists, more and more. The city began to develop more than 900 years ago. The city's first foundations were laid during the Spring and Fall period (770-476 BC). A few centuries later, under the Song dynasty (1086 of our era), the residence of Zhou Digong, a large local laying, is transformed into a temple, and renamed Zhouzhuang.Surrounded by four lakes and around thirty rivers, the city, considered today as China's «first city of water» by the premises, still contains many remains of its long history: most of its bridges and many local historic sites date from the yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties. We love it.
