The small town of Macomer, built on the Planargia granite plateau, rises to 563 meters. It's not unusual for it to snow in winter! It is an important commercial and industrial center, particularly in the dairy sector with the local production of pecorino cheese. Macomer can be an interesting starting point for those wishing to discover the interior of this part of Sardinia, marked by dense scrubland and rich in beautiful landscapes. The town is also well connected by rail to the island's main towns. If you're passing through, take a look at the 16th-century Aragonese Gothic church of San Pantaleo, built of pink trachyte. Macomer was already inhabited during the Nuragic civilization (1800-500 BC). The fortification towers remain. The Carthaginians, then the Romans, passed through the town. The roads leading out of Macomer are rich in vestiges of past civilizations.
