A natural and occasional phenomenon that takes place during the full moon (between March and October) at extremely low tide.
It is a natural phenomenon, caused on full moon nights (between March and October) at extremely low tides, when the moon is reflected on the long mud banks of Roebuck Bay. A reflection that the ancient Japanese pearl fishermen called "the golden staircase" because they saw a staircase rising to the sky. On evenings when the magic happens, a market is held at Town Beach, with local musicians. Ask at the Visitor Center for exact dates and times.
