Located 420 km from Perth, Geraldton is the largest town on this part of the coast, with a population of 40,000. It is famous for the many Dutch shipwrecks in the 17th century, including that of the Batavia, which gave its name to the Batavia Coast. In all, 320 ships ran aground in the area. Geraldton is the city of lobster fishing, where you can also enjoy a wide range of water sports. The waterfront is a pleasant place for a stroll, and for a snack break at the Beached Barrel or the Jaffle Shack Cafe, for example. Bus service from Perth with TransWA.
