Located 200 km from Perth, this small fishing village is still alive thanks to the Pinnacles desert. The town owes its name to a ship stranded there, named after Miguel de Cervantes, author of Don Quixote. Another attraction not to be missed if you are in Cervantes: the stromatolites of Thetis Lake! As in Hamelin Pool, these rare stromatolites are the first living things on earth, and apparently played a key role that led to our appearance! The biology lesson in the middle of the desert landscape is fascinating. The tour of the lake takes less than 30 minutes. Trail on the left 2 km from Cervantes to Ocean Road 60km inland, we also recommend the Badgingarra National Park, especially if you are in the area between July and the end of September. The wildflower season is fabulous here, with flowers lighting up this relatively deserted, almost treeless place. The 3.5 kilometer Bagingarra Nature Trail is a beautiful walk. The park is located near the Brand Highway which connects Perth to Geraldton by the interior If you have decided to take the coastal road via Lancelin to reach Cervantes, you should know that this road (Indian Ocean Drive) gives you direct access to the Pinnacles. To reach Geraldton, stay on the coastal road from Cervantes. It is quite easy to drive through several fishing villages: Jurien Bay, Greenhead, Leeman and Dongara, which are all nice stops.
