Just 11 km south of Hobart, the quiet suburb of Kingston has been growing over the years, offering many advantages between small green mountains and the sea. Many Tasmanians live in Kingston and commute to work in Hobart every day, and the town has been named Australia's best suburb for families by Aussie Home Loans. Kingston was originally named Brown's River after the Scottish botanist Robert Brown who explored the area in 1804 (others assume it was named after a convict named Dick Brown). The name of the town was changed to Kingston in 1851.
