Named after Bruni d'Entrecasteaux and Huon de Kermadec, French explorers who passed through in 1792 on board the ships La Recherche and L'Espérance. Bruny is about 100 km long and comprises two parts separated by an isthmus where pygmy penguins nest. On the isthmus, hike to the top of the dune, The Neck, to admire the view of the open sea and its deep blue waters on one side, and the turquoise waters of the d'Entrecasteaux Channel on the other. Bruny is also the gastronomic circuit Made on Bruny Island with local producers who will make you taste wine, whisky, cheese, chocolate, honey, oysters and red fruits.
