Clare is a pleasant, albeit long town, founded in 1842 by European settlers from County Clare in Ireland, from which it takes its name. The main town in the Clare Valley, it has a population of around 3,200 and is located on the Main North Road, 136 kilometers north of Adelaide. The town's main activity is vine-growing, of which there are many in the region, and tourism. Shops and accommodation are of a high standard. For more information, visit the Clare Valley Wine, Food & Tourism Centre (8 Spring Gully Road).
