With a population of nearly 8,000, located at an altitude of 800 meters and just over an hour from the ski resorts of Kosciuszko National Park, Cooma is the capital of the Snowy Mountains. It is a pleasant little town that visitors often use as a base for accommodation, as the rates are much lower than in Jindabyne or Thredbo. There are many restaurants, supermarkets, shops, a bank, a post office, a swimming pool... Every year, on the first weekend of November, the town organizes the Australian National Busking Championships (music festival) and the Snowy Ride (motorcycle race), as well as the Motorfest (vintage car show) every other year.
