Located east of the Snowy Mountains, Adaminaby developed as an agricultural center in the 1830s. The village was moved to its present location in 1956, when the Snowy Mountains hydroelectric scheme was built. Some 50 km from the Selwyn Snowfields and Kiandra resorts, Adaminaby is popular with anglers, skiers on the Mount Selwyn and visitors to the Snowy Mountain Highway. It's also the last place where you can easily find petrol before Talbingo and Tumut. Its most famous landmark is the giant trout in the town square.
