With a population of about 9,200, Katoomba, the most famous and popular town in the Blue Mountains, is located 102 km west of Sydney. While it is full of restaurants, bars and accommodation, the town itself has little to offer. Indeed, people come here mainly to reach Echo Point Lookout and admire the rock formation of The Three Sisters, to go down into the valley by the Giant Steps, or even to go up on the plateau by the Scenic Railway "the steepest train in the world" of Scenic World. A tip: take the time to drive along the plateau south of town on Cliff Drive: the views from there are impressive.
