The city was born around a priory that was one of the richest in Auvergne, and now remains only a few remains like the big tower, which was then an element of defence. Dedicated to Our Lady founded in 952 by Amblard de Thiers, Archbishop of Lyon, he was gathered at the Cluny abbey by Saint Odilo, dead in 1048. Ris was to have a certain activity because in 1482 Louis XI created fairs and a weekly market, which will be confirmed by Louis XIII in 1622. The city was fortified - as a result of the Hundred Years War - we managed to find the location of the walls. From that time, Ris retains some elements in the particular houses. One of the resources of Ris in the th century was the cultivation of the vine whose product was exported by boat to Paris, the loading taking place at the port of Ris just a few kilometres from the centre. From 1725, Ris had a salt attic: The city was at the limit of the Bourbonnais where the salt was sold very expensive, while Auvergne province was paying it at low prices, hence active contraband. Today, Ris is a village located in the early foothills of Bois-Noire, with a town in several areas such as the Ris station located 2 km from the village, on the road between Vichy and Thiers. It can also be noted that this village of less than 700 inhabitants today is served by many nearby shops.
