It was the main port of Tenerife until 1706. On that date, the eruption of the Montaña Negra destroyed a large part of the city, with the exception of the Castillo de San Miguel, built in the 16th century near the port. The small center of the town, grouped around the 16th century Santa Ana church and a small shady square, is not lacking in charm. But one also goes to Garachico for its natural water pools, to have lunch in its restaurant or to watch the waves breaking. And as almost every place in the archipelago has its own slightly chic and not very trendy village, for Tenerife it is this one. Even more so in winter.
