CAFÉ LOUVRE

Czech restaurant €€
4.3/5
8 reviews

An emblematic Prague café and restaurant, where the ramparts once stood, the Louvre Café recalls the atmosphere of the cafés of the Austro-Hungarian Empire with its dressed waiters, aristocratic furniture and a hushed atmosphere conducive to a galant or business meeting. A true place of history, the Louvre café counts among its customers Karel Čapek, Franz Kafka, Albert Einstein and Masaryk. The restaurant offers excellent Czech cuisine, for very reasonable prices and first-class service. A great experience!

THE BASE

Czech restaurant €€

In a radical departure from traditional hospoda, The Base's decor is purposely uncluttered, brightly lit and discreetly furnished. The trendy 30-somethings can also be found here, with the copper beer vats as a backdrop (here we only drink Urquell pilsner), and order traditional Czech dishes in a light version, based on local and seasonal produce. Goulash, pork chops and roast duck are all very well done! A little pricey, but you pay for the atmosphere, and the daily menu means you don't have to spend too much.

Salabka is a charming complex with an excellent gourmet restaurant and its own winery in the district of Troja. Quality wines and spirits have been grown here since the 13th century. Since 1955, Salabka wines have already won several international awards. Chef Petr Kunc prepares creative specialties. The dishes are worked, the colours, the texture, the tastes blend together for a very successful culinary experience, all in a magnificent green setting set back from the hustle and bustle of the centre.

AMOS

Bistro and brasserie
4.5/5

Unpretentious, but a great place to dine on a budget and in good proportion, a stone's throw from Old Town Square and close to the Roxy. Czech cuisine with a wide range of meat recipes, some trout sold by weight and a wide range of side dishes, all for a very reasonable price. So, for those who don't want to spend too much while filling their stomachs, this is your Prague rendezvous. There are a few tables outside on the sidewalk, but the street isn't very busy.

KOLKOVNA

We come here to drink a beer and taste some of the best Czech dishes in Prague. Wild boar, roast goose or duck, pig's knees or roast suckling pig or smoked sausage. Pints of beer, cabbage and knedliky obviously accompany the whole thing, an excellent address frequented by the local businessmen who came to eat well... and drink well. Very reasonable prices, even if the place, a chain present all over the country, lacks a little charm and the service is not the best in town

CAFE GRAFF

Czech specialities and recipes inspired by the Alpine region are rather successful, in both cases fresh and light products. We also come here for breakfast, very complete and rather cheap in terms of quantity and quality of products: good pastries and fresh fruit juices. A good idea if you have decided to save it at your hotel. And then we also come for the setting: comfortable sofas and a cosy atmosphere under high ceilings, a small terrace on the street, all just a stone's throw from the heart of Nové Mĕsto

U DVOU KOCEK

Czech restaurant

The "two cats" (that's his name) are painted on the façade of this arcaded building located on a charming square. Here you are in a typical hospoda in the centre of the town with a tradition that dates back to the 17th century. As soon as you enter, you know you're going to drink Plzeň, the drawings that symbolize this brand are on all the walls among the pictures of the old Prague. In the evening, the atmosphere is often provided by a musician. Crowd, hubbub and smoke. We like the warm atmosphere of the place, reminiscent of old inns from another time.

HOST RESTAURANT

This small restaurant has just opened its doors and offers quality cuisine at a relatively low price right next to the castle. You will particularly appreciate the view of the city and the intimate setting, ideal for a couple's lunch or dinner. In summer, the large windows are open and in winter, the natural light is exquisite. The cuisine is local and international and the service is fast and friendly. Chef Jakub prepares each dish with fresh ingredients and the wine list goes very well with the dishes on offer

Located at the top of the Žižkov TV tower, Oblaca Restaurant offers enchanting views of Prague's city. Raised at a height of 66 m, the setting is very contemporary and the clientele resolutely chic and upscale. On the plate, a beautiful European gastronomic cuisine, a little expensive of course. The recipes are oriented more towards Italy but tinged with fusion by skilful blends of spices. Probably the price to pay for these incredible views! The tower is easily accessible and has its own parking lot if you come with your car.

RESTAURACE U RUDOLFINA

Czech restaurant
4/5
1 review

A good address in the center of town, behind the Rudolfinum, for tasting authentic Czech cuisine. The decor is that of a typical hospoda , and many locals gather here every day over a beer to talk about anything and everything. Don't miss the home-made svíčková , pork knuckle or roast duck, which are particularly good. The "all-you-can-eat" menu is rather inexpensive, but beware: the bill can rise quite quickly when you start dabbling in the meat and game specialties.

U PROVAZNICE

An address that offers local specialities at very attractive prices, despite its location in a tourist area. The portions are huge, the duck roasted with cabbage and knedlíky for example, the beer very cold. Also specialities such as marinated camembert or Prague sausage, which are continuously cut by the cooks. The service is ultra-fast and professional. Terrace quite pleasant in summer and rather quiet, although a few steps from the continuous tourist flow between the Old City and Wenceslas Square.

There is one exception to the touristy restaurants of the Castle district: a hidden tavern just a stone's throw from the Castle (no sign on the door - you can spot the entrance by the red-and-white coat of arms adorned with a black ox's head). We come here to drink the beer that flows freely and enjoy some of Prague's best "Czech tapas": tlacenka (the equivalent of our snout with vinaigrette), marinated sausage, pivni syr (a cheese that resembles maroilles) and klobasa are excellent and can be enjoyed for lunch, dinner or an aperitif.

DŮM U VEJVODŮ

An address that summons all the credos of the Czech tavern: large wooden tables, antiques and old posters, a bar that delivers pints of beer, continuously brewed on the spot, without asking you for your opinion, it seems so normal! The tavern has more than 300 seats, so we're used to going fast. You will find on the menu all the Czech specialities that go with beer: marinated sausages, camembert in vinegar, breaded cheese... And for the meal: duck and potato bread! Anyway, we come out with a lot of calories.

KANTÝNA

Czech restaurant €€

The daily specials are cheap, the bill climbs a little faster for the a la carte menu, but in any case, it's fresh, copious and well prepared. You enter through the butcher's department (where you can choose your pieces of meat if you have come for that), then you go to the self-service area: on the left the kitchens, on the right the bar. Just punch in and take, the staff ticks off your consos and you pay as you leave. Simple, efficient, cheap and, inevitably, crowded at meal times. Make sure you make a reservation if you want to dine there.
