36 kilometers from the capital, here's a charming little pebble beach away from the noisy "English colony" of Kassiopi. It's also regularly awarded a "blue flag" for its cleanliness and organization. Nowadays, it's the Union Jack that flies over this ancient Roman city, visited by Cicero and Nero. You'll notice the Panaghia Kassopitra church, destroyed by the Ottomans during the siege of the island, then rebuilt by the Venetians in 1580, and on the hill overlooking the port the ruins of an Angevin castle. If you're passing through, have lunch at Cavo Barbaro, an excellent tavern.
