Welcome to Andros! The island, and its capital in particular, is more chic and elegant than first impressions might suggest. It offers an incredible concentration of cultural venues. When you arrive, the island's main port is a must. On the quay, an agency sells boat tickets, but there's also a bank, a post office and car rental agencies. We recommend renting a car after disembarking from Rafina, as bus connections are long and infrequent, and cabs are more expensive. The port of Andros is close to most of the island's sandy, sheltered beaches, and can be an interesting option with a car. The beach next to the port is not very tempting, so you'd be better off heading for Kypri, Fellos, Aghios Petros. Vitali, with its translucent waters and large pebbles, is at the end of a 25 km dirt road. Another rare site to visit in the area: 2.5 km from Gavrion stands the five-storey tower of Aghios Petros, probably dating back to Hellenistic times.
