Filoti is the largest village of Naxos, with about 1,800 permanent inhabitants, who live mainly from agriculture and livestock. It is located on the side of Mount Zas, the highest point of the archipelago (1,004 meters), at the exit of the Tragea valley, 19 km east of Chora, 2 km south of Halki and 5 km southwest of Apiranthos. Here the Cycladic houses contrast with the dull color of the mountain. From Filoti, you can reach the beautiful and almost wild beach of Kalantos, 19 km away, near the southern tip of the island. On the way, the four-story tower of Himaros (Pyrgos Himarou), dating from the Hellenistic period, stands out.
