At the northern tip of the island, 23 km north of Apinranthos and 39 km northeast of Chora via the coast, the village of Apollonas has a population of around 100. It is home to the largest kouros in Greece, dating from the 7th century BC. An attractive village, refreshed by crystal-clear springs, it is well-developed for tourism. The sandy beach next to the port is a little overcrowded. Don't swim on the rocks, the currents are dangerous. Above Apollonas is the ancient quarry of Grammata, one of the oldest in Greece, with an imposing kouros. Its historical significance makes it the most important archaeological site on Naxos.
