7.5 km north-east of Chora, it is a green village with orchards and greenhouses. The Cretan writer Nikos Kazantzakis, trained at the Jesuit College of Naxos, and author ofAlexis Zorba (adapted for the cinema as Zorba the Greek), lived here between 1897 and 1899. On the road, near Aplomata, the amateur will be interested in the remains of Mycenaean tombs. Several Byzantine monasteries follow one another along the way. On the coastal road, in the direction of Apollonas, you will discover a series of beaches: Pahia Ammos, Faneromeni, Hilia Vryssi, and finally the picturesque Abrami with some rooms for rent. The route to Apollonas passes through a very varied landscape.
