Situated between the beaches of Plaka and Kastraki, Mikri Vigla forms an overhang in the sea. This summer resort comprises two white sandy beaches separated by a hill. The site of Mikri Vigla was used as an observation post during the period of the Duchy of Naxos (1205-1579) against Turkish pirate raids. According to legend, it was from the rocks of Mikri Vigla that Ariadne bathed after being abandoned on the island by Theseus. Off shore, some 500 meters from the western tip, lies the islet and chapel of Panaghia Parthena (Virgin Mary), celebrated on May 24.
