Once frequented mainly by naturists, since the mid-2000s it has undergone major development, with dozens of hotels, restaurants, stores, a pharmacy, an ATM, water sports activities and decibels until late at night. The island's old port, where pirates once docked, is now overrun with tourists. In August, the beautiful white sands and crystal-clear waters become absolutely crowded. The beach of Aghia Anna to the south, however, has been spared from concrete, as it is bordered by salt marshes that prevent any construction close to the coastline.
