Olloix is home to just over 300 inhabitants. The village was built at the foot of the puy of the same name. This volcano rises to an altitude of 1,002 metres and is surrounded by the Ozenne and Marquerole puys. It offers superb panoramic views over virtually the entire département: the Cézallier plateau, Mont-Dore, Monts Dôme, the Gergovie plateau, the Limagne plain, the Forez and Livradois mountains... Olloix is home to the remains of the 12th-century commandery of the Hospitaliers de Saint-Jean de Jérusalem, as well as a Romanesque church dedicated to Saint Jean-Baptiste. The village is said to be crossed by an ancient Roman road, which linked Vichy to Mont-Dore.
