Coming from Megalopoli in the direction of Andritsena is the small, typically Arcadian village of Karytaina. Overlooking the Alpheus gorge and dominated by its medieval castle, this small village is timeless, like many others in Greece. From the small parking lot near the square, take the path leading to the castle and stop first on the right to admire Aghios Nikolaos, the small Byzantine church with octagonal bell tower lost in the cypress trees. Then you will climb, in a short 15 minutes, to the castle. From there, you have a magnificent view of the village, on the right, and the gorge, on the left, and straight ahead as you enter. The panoramic view is magnificent.
