The theater of Epidaurus is classified as a Unesco heritage site since 1988. 153 km from Athens, 27 km from Nafplio and 68 km from Corinth, Epidaurus is one of the most visited sites in Greece: in the heart of the beautiful Argolid, the ancient sanctuary of the god of medicine, Asclepius, is indeed of rare archaeological interest. The stadium, the tholos, the temple of Asclepius and its monuments are very well presented. But what makes the wealth of the site, it is its immense theater. The inhabitants of Epidaurus had the idea, a few years ago, to take advantage of the exceptional state of the building and its acoustics to organize, in summer, a festival of theater and music. Epidaurus is an ambiguous name because it can designate three distinct places: Archaia Epidauros (or Palea Epidauros on some signs) for the ancient Epidaurus, at the seaside, is located at about fifteen kilometers from Nea Epidauros (the New Epidaurus), and the archaeological site, as for him, is neither in the one nor in the other one! Even if the area is beautiful, the modern city of Epidaurus is not very interesting. If you are looking for nightlife, it is better to stay in Nafplio. The campsites of the area will please those who are looking for the calm of summer and the sweetness of the Argolid. Getting there. The site is well served by bus (www.ktelargolida.gr), including from Athens during the festival
