Aegean Airlines, the national airline, flies from Athens to many Greek islands such as Chios, Corfu, Kythera, Ikaria, Kalymnos, Karpathos, Kassos, Kos, Chania, Leros, Milos, Mykonos, Naxos, Rhodes, Samos, as well as Thessaloniki, Ionina and many other inland locations, which are becoming more and more numerous every year. The airplane is an increasingly popular means of transportation for the Greeks because it is, unfortunately for the environment, much faster than the ferries and surprisingly not more expensive.

This airport, inaugurated for the 2004 Olympic Games, is easily accessible from the city centre by metro, bus and taxi. It also offers direct connections to the ports of Piraeus and Rafina. The airport tourist office, open from 8am to 10pm, has many leaflets at your disposal and can provide you with information as soon as you arrive. And wifi is free throughout the airport.

Some metro stations are impressive: extremely clean and spacious, with all-marble platforms and corridors and even collections of antique finds or ruins! The Greek rail network has shrunk considerably in recent years. Only the line between Athens and the north of the country has been modernised. From Larissis Central Station, trains mainly connect Athens and Thessaloniki as well as some of the country's major cities (Larissa, Kalambaka...). It should be noted, however, that two transverse lines to Evia and Peloponnese are operated by another more recent network, Proastiakos.
