The most beautiful cloister in the city offers a peaceful retreat from the hubbub of the Stradun.

Next to the Saint-Sauveur church, the monastery was built from 1337 onwards in a Romano-Gothic style. The cloister, built between 1327 and 1348 by Mihoje Brajkov, distributes four arcaded galleries. Equipped with a beautiful garden with palm trees and multiple plant species, it also has a covered gallery, a pointed archway, elegant pillars topped with figurative capitals. After the 1667 earthquake, the church was redesigned in a Baroque style. On the Stradun side, however, its gate remains in the Gothic-Renaissance style. This monastery is the counterpart of the Dominican monastery (behind the door Ploče).
In the monastic museum, many of the works preserved, particularly the view of Ragusa before the earthquake (1667) which destroyed almost the entire city. This graphic image is an important document for architects. It allowed them, among other things, to rebuild the old town as close as possible to the original plans. From the period before the earthquake, only this main portal overlooking the Stradun and the pediment decorated with a Gothic pediment was built by the brothers Leonard and Petar Petrović.
The former pharmacy, still active inside the convent, opened its office in 1317. Historically, it was the third largest in Europe! Its first counter and many apothecary utensils are kept in the monastery museum, while the rich library has thousands of books and manuscripts

visite incontournable
