Račišće is a small village founded in the 17th century by inhabitants of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Croatian coast, who landed on the island in an attempt to escape the Ottoman invaders. They survived by growing olive trees and vines. Today, most of them live from fishing, tourism or their retirement while remaining close to the agricultural activity. Often, deep-sea fishermen, after having sailed around the world several times, come back to live at home in the Lumbarda Bay. Račišće is ideal for a quiet family stay. One can rent a small boat to discover the surroundings.
