The bay of Stari Grad has always been a home base for sailors, who anchored for a time and then set sail again. Since the arrival of the Aegeans (4th century BC), the plain between Stari Grad and Vrboska has maintained a traditional agricultural tradition, which continues to bear fruit (viticulture, olive growing). Geometric plots of land demarcated by dry-stone walls, carefully restored huts, rainwater harvesting through cisterns and gutters - all still in working order. The site was declared a nature reserve and classified by Unesco in 2008.
