The island's main town, Hvar-city hugs a jagged arm of land. Its Venetian architecture is a reminder of its glorious medieval and Renaissance past (Franciscan monastery, Spanish fortress, from which you have a breathtaking view of the city and the Pakleni archipelago, arsenal, theater, Hanibal Lucić garden). The seafront promenade, one of the most jet-set on the Adriatic, records a high tourist peak in summer.
