A large archaeological museum with an important collection of ancient artifacts and the option of a guided tour.
Founded in 1820, this first archaeological museum is housed in a building designed by Viennese architects August Kirstein and Friedrich Ohmann and built in 1914. It houses some 150,000 objects dating from prehistoric times to the Middle Ages. Nearly all the pieces are original and were found in Salona, the ancient city founded before Split. In the garden, see the fine collection of sarcophagi, busts, steles, mosaics... Guided tours with a curator are available.
