Between Trogir and Split, Kaštela stretches along the northern coast of a bay with the same name. It was here that the Split airport was opened in 1966. In 1995, the town was established as a small community by merging the seven surrounding villages, all of which were harbors with fortified castles that belonged to the local bourgeois families. Due to the Ottoman threat and in order to protect the coast, the buildings were connected by a wall. Today they are used as a second home or hotel for a pleasant family tourist destination.
